Who I Am

I’m Michael Harleman — a writer and lifelong technology enthusiast. I’m retired and on disability, and I’ve spent most of my life exploring how things work. I write because I enjoy it, and because sometimes I have something worth saying. I try to write in a way my grandmother would have approved of.

My Purpose With This Blog

I’m curious about the world and the systems we rely on. When something is confusing or distorted by noise, I try to understand it and explain what I learn so others don’t have to fight through the same mess. I prefer clarity over hype, especially media hype. This blog is free to read, and I’m not selling anything.

My Approach / Philosophy

When something sounds off, I don’t accept it at face value. I look deeper. I’m skeptical of distortion and try to find human‑first explanations grounded in empathy and clear thinking. I don’t promote sensationalism, tribalism, or drama. Civility matters to me. Disagreement is welcome here — rudeness is not.

What You Can Expect From the Codex

You’ll find clear explanations of confusing topics, long‑form thinking without hype, and a space where disagreement is allowed but behavior matters. You won’t find ads, monetization, or tracking. This is meant to be a calm corner of the internet.

A Brief Personal Note

I live in West Palm Beach, Florida. I balance writing with family responsibilities, including caring for aging parents both here and abroad. I’m self‑taught in technology, government, economics, and many of the subjects I write about. I left school early and still regret that, but it pushed me to build my own way of learning.
